Accommodations
At Jade Mountain Resort, St. Lucia, each of the 24 infinity pool sanctuaries stands as a unique masterpiece of design and architecture. The sanctuaries offer unrivaled views of the iconic Pitons and the Caribbean Sea, with sanctuaries positioned at varying elevations. The sanctuary spaces are masterfully crafted to blend the bedroom, living area, and a lavish private infinity pool into a seamless, expansive setting that extends into the natural surroundings.
Each sanctuary boasts impressive 15-ft-high ceilings and a distinctive, individual design in which the fourth wall is deliberately absent, inviting breathtaking views while ensuring utmost privacy. The layout and size of each sanctuary vary, offering a range of personalized experiences.
To cater to different preferences, the sanctuaries are categorized into four rate types based on their square footage and pool size: STAR, MOON, SUN, and GALAXY. Alongside these, Jade Mountain Resort also offers 5 SKY whirlpool suites. These suites are equipped with a large bathtub suitable for two but do not include a private pool, providing a different yet equally luxurious experience.
The living spaces at the Jade Mountain Resort boast a remarkable array of over 20 tropical hardwood species for flooring and trims, sustainably sourced to ensure environmental responsibility. The team meticulously selected each tree from Guyana’s rainforests, reflecting a commitment to both luxury and sustainability. The variety of woods includes striking options like Purpleheart, Greenheart, and Bloodwood, all contributing to a unique, luxurious ambiance.
In addition to bespoke tropical wood furniture, an eclectic mix of furnishings enhances each sanctuary, creating distinct, personalized atmospheres. The interior walls are adorned with soft, blush-toned coral plaster from Barbados, while the exteriors feature robust concrete and local stone, complemented by large tropical-wood window frames with adjustable jalousie louvers.
The accommodations include lavish infinity pool sanctuaries in categories: star, moon, sun, galaxy, and sky, as well as whirlpool suites (not featuring a private pool). Sanctuaries feature a king-size bed and a suite of amenities: a refrigerator, tea/coffee facilities, hair dryer, iron, and an electronic safe, with butler service available for added convenience. Diving / Diving Site(s)
Reefs raising out of the Pitons Mountains
The Diving
The Anse Chastanet reef starts just 10 yards beyond the water’s edge. The reef’s remarkable ecosystem offers an amazing profusion of unusual tropical marine life, in 20 to 140 feet of calm, clear water. Anse Chastanet reef, home to more than 150 species of fish, makes for an amazing dive day or night.
In the shallow areas, be sure to keep your eyes open for peacock flounders, octopus, needlefish, and turtles. Or drop down a little deeper over dense coral growth to see puffers, moray eels, parrotfish, lobsters, and even sea horses. A unique dive site for all abilities, and is especially good for macro photography.
The shore dive is a required “first” dive for dive guests. It allows divers to feel assured that all equipment is functioning properly, that their buoyancy skills are adequate for entering the marine reserve, and that they are oriented to the type of diving for which St Lucia is known. This reef is a favorite of most professional underwater photographers and videographers who visit Anse Chastanet.
Scuba St Lucia has a talented and friendly multinational staff. Its local dive leaders are true professionals who have logged thousands of dive hours in the marine reserve and will show you the fantastic sights on the reefs. The staff are very accommodating and will do their best to help out with “special requests”.
Scuba St. Lucia is a renowned National Geographic/PADI 5-Star Dive resort and DAN (Divers Alert Network) Partner in Dive Safety facility. It is located in the heart of St. Lucia’s marine reserves at the south end of Anse Chastanet Beach. Founded in 1981, Scuba St. Lucia has established itself as one of the best dive shops in the Caribbean.
The reefs in St. Lucia are some of the most underrated diving destinations in the world. This dive team is family-focused and kid-friendly, yet can also cater to photographers and adults of all skill levels. There are no pools at Anse Chastanet, so dive training is done in a training area just off the beach.
Scuba St. Lucia is perfectly set up for both beach and boat dives. She offers guests private gear storage, a well-equipped scuba store, small and large scuba tanks, ScubaPro rental dive gear, and Sealife underwater photo and video rental. Kids Sea Camp is a dealer for both ScubaPro and Sealife, so you can always shop with us and be fully outfitted and ready to dive and enjoy your family dive trip by just calling us.
Night dives are offered at least twice weekly on Anse Chastanet’s Reef, which really “wakes up” at night, with many interesting crustaceans on the move, large basket stars, sleeping parrotfish, octopus and squid, bioluminescence, and the “THING.” Scuba Courses: Scuba St Lucia is an ideal place to learn to dive, with warm, clear waters and a shallow, protected reef close to the Dive Center.
Equipment Rental
The rental facility is fully equipped with the latest scuba gear including Scubapro regulators with octopus, low-pressure inflator, depth, and pressure gauges, Seaquest/Aqualung beds, and 3mm shorty wetsuits. Also available for rental are masks, fins, and snorkels. All rental gear is serviced regularly to ensure top quality and safety. The facility is equipped with four large freshwater rinse tanks with disinfectant inside and all gear is washed after each use.
Photo and Video
The dive shop, Scuba St. Lucia, offers its clients an underwater Photo and Video center with camera rentals and custom video creation. Digital underwater cameras are also available for rental. The staff can assist with all camera and video needs and offer a range of courses, such as Underwater Videographer and Underwater Photographer.
Boats
Scuba St. Lucia operates three dive boats: Miss Ina, Miss Bertha, and Jenny-Marie. The boat dives should also not be missed. From the dramatic walls beneath the majestic Piton Mountains to Superman’s flight, a drift dive in the shadow of the Petit Piton, the diving is fantastic. Coral Gardens and Jalousie under the Gros Piton, Piton Wall, the wreck of the “Lesleen M,” Anse La Raye, and Anse Cochon are other dives that must be experienced. Closer to home for the afternoon boat trips but no less spectacular sites, the diver can explore Fairyland, Turtle Reef, Grand Caille, Trou Diable, the Pinnacles, and much more.
The pace in St. Lucia is always slow and relaxed, and the diving and activities are efficiently organized with minimal fuss. The dive boats have fresh drinking water, complete safety equipment, towels, first-aid kits, and a DAN oxygen unit.

Secret Bay
Introduction
Caribbean Experiences Unlike Anywhere Else
A Two Michelin Key all-villa Caribbean resort in Dominica, featuring secluded residential-style villas with private plunge pools, dedicated villa hosts, on-call concierge, private chefs and expert guides, hidden beaches, endless rainforest-to-ocean views, and transformative experiences curated just for you.
Named #1 Caribbean Resort by Travel+Leisure four years running, Secret Bay is a Relais & Châteaux property set on a clifftop promontory where rainforest meets sea on Dominica. The Green Globe-certified resort comprises 27 private villas, each with a plunge pool, a dedicated villa host, access to secluded beaches, and concierge-curated experiences.
Conceived by celebrated Venezuelan architect Fruto Vivas, the villas fuse high design with local craftsmanship. Built entirely from sustainably-sourced Guyanese hardwood and assembled by hand without heavy machinery, each residence opens to the surrounding forest while offering the comforts of a private home: gourmet kitchens, open-air showers, and covered terraces suspended above the Caribbean.
Since boyhood, Secret Bay owner Gregor Nassief had a lofty dream – to create a home away from home amongst the wild forested cliffs of Dominica while preserving the natural environment. While celebrating the nuptials of Gregor and wife Sandra, Sandra’s father and award-winning Latin American architect, Fruto Vivas granted the couple a special gift—a proposed drawing of their personal residence at Secret Bay.
Thus, the resort was founded upon a story of love, both for each other and for the land which they shared a deep commitment to preserve. With Fruto, Sandra and Gregor’s combined visions, the villas that comprise the living, breathing eco-luxury resort at Secret Bay came to life.
The Story
Family Dive Adventures will tailor your package to meet your family’s specific needs. Mom and Dad can choose to go boat diving while the kids are in SASY, Seal Team, or even taking a JOW class, but parents will have opportunities to dive with their kids as well. If you or the kids are getting certified, we will arrange for PADI eLearning to be done before arrival so you can get the most out of your diving experience on the island. We can arrange for a private instructor to dive with you and your family on the extra days available after certification.
The Secret Bay Difference
Evolving beyond shared common spaces and one-size, all-inclusive molds, Secret Bay offers luxury residential-style villas that serve as your home away from home. One where space and seclusion provide the ultimate in comfort and discreet six-star service provide a peerless island escape. Here, both within our gated confines and beyond resort grounds, guests indulge in an entirely distinct high-touch experience marked by an inherent aura of romance, well-appointed accommodations and amenities, and, of course, our extensively personal and tailored services.
Luxury
Secret Bay’s villas feature between 1,000 and 3,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor living space and lot sizes ranging from 5,000 to 8,500 square feet, inclusive of plunge pools, gourmet kitchens, free-standing tubs and pillow hammocks. Composed entirely of sustainably-sourced Guyanese hardwood and Red Cedar, the villas offer the most luxurious experience in harmony with nature, as Secret Bay exists in a beautiful equilibrium between natural environment and guest comfort.
Each villa is equipped with a personal iPhone, Sonos Bluetooth Speaker, and Apple TV with a provided Netflix account. Guests can stay as connected as they please, or perhaps disconnect from the outside world on the Gommier Meditation Deck, nestled in the trees along a pathway down to Tibay Beach. It’s no secret that Secret Bay is the #1 resort in Dominica for its commendable balance between sustainability and utmost luxury.
Seclusion
We believe the most life-enriching places on the planet are set off the beaten track, where immersion in nature results in soul-nourishing reconnection with oneself and one another. For that reason, we’ve long provided a serene sanctuary where spaciousness, seclusion and discreet service offer the most intimate escape.
Thoughtfully designed as private, freestanding sanctuaries — diverging from the ordinary hotel room — Secret Bay’s villas are meant to be enjoyed far more than just a place to sleep. Here, guests can dip in their private plunge pool, lounge beneath the warm Dominica sun on the open-air deck — bathing suit or not — and indulge in a customised breakfast prepared by their very own dedicated staff in the villa’s state-of-the-art kitchen.
Very few common areas on the property complement our six freestanding spread across acres of rainforest — less than 7% of which is marked for development — making Secret Bay one of the most tranquil, remote boutique hotels in the world.
Personalized Service
Service at Secret Bay is extensively personal and tailored to the desires, lifestyle and preferences of each and every individual. With no front desk, a dedicated villa host and concierges who curate a customised itinerary for each guest — including everything from life-altering adventures to transformative culinary and wellness experiences — Secret Bay offers the bespoke, under-the-radar escape that modern-day travelers have only dreamt of.
“What sets Secret Bay apart from most resorts is not only the true peace, tranquility, and privacy of the resort but also the service and people of Secret Bay. They will go to lengths that are truly uncommon and remarkable to make sure your every need and want is met so you can enjoy your vacation fully.”
Innovative Cuisine
Our Executive Chef’s innovative “no-menu” concept at Zing Zing restaurant allows for more experiential dining, as he draws on his creativity to reimagine the seasonal, local ingredients available that day. As such, each dish becomes a story, allowing the executive chef to develop a more intimate connection with both his guests and the ingredients he and his team so prudently gather each morning.
The Chef sources seafood — including Lionfish, an invasive species that Secret Bay strives to consciously manage in our Caribbean waters — meat, poultry and produce from the best nearby farmers and fishermen with whom he shares a close relationship and visits daily to find what’s fresh. The chef will also join guests in their very own state-of-the-art kitchens for personalised cooking classes, allowing them to take home a one-of-a-kind recipe and the vivid memory of preparing a gourmet twist on Dominican classics.
Romance
The luxury of Secret Bay does, in part, emerge from the ultra-modern amenities within each villa. However, the true luxury that guests so often glorify is the resort’s inherent aura of romance. Secret Bay was built on love, with love. Our first-class service and wealth of exceptionally relaxing experiences foster a getaway that allow you and your loved one to evanesce into the enchantment of Dominica and each other.
The privacy, luxury, and immersion of Secret Bay’s villas in the Dominica rainforest are the essence of romance. There is, perhaps, no other boutique hotel in the Caribbean that offers an experience as intimate as Secret Bay.
Personalise your bedding to satisfy your preferences, revel in the warmth of an open-air shower while enveloped by the Dominica sea-breeze, and dip in your villa’s very own infinity pool with sight of the ocean and the setting sun. Secret Bay is a place of magic, sure to transport you back to the time you first fell in love.
“Secret Bay…like a time machine…finds a way to bring you back to that time before children, before huge responsibilities, back to the time when you first fell in love.”
Childlike Wonder
There is perhaps no better place to nurture your childlike sense of wonder than Secret Bay. Whether alongside your partner or your kids, guests have the opportunity to reconnect with what it means to be alive, to be at one with nature, to explore with eyes wide open and leave forever changed.
Witness the vibrant world beneath the sea surface, canyon into the rich depths of the Dominican jungle or simply immerse yourself in the wonders of Secret Beach without the distractions of daily life. At Secret Bay, we encourage guests of all ages to let go of their inhibitions and run wild — whatever that means to them.

Diving / Diving Site(s)
Dominica is one of the top five dive destinations in the Caribbean
Nearby Scuba Diving
Dominica is one of the top five dive destinations in the Caribbean, and has been ranked amongst the top 10 in the world, with a variety of sites suitable for all levels of divers. Much less visited than other dive areas around Dominica, the north offers up a range of reefs that will likely be yours to explore on your own. The limited number of visitors ensures that the richness of the coral life and sponges has been unharmed by divers over the years.
There’s something for diver, from an easy pier dive voted number-one pier dive by Scuba Diving Magazine, to the Toucari caves, whose coal archways and volcanic bubbles rising from the sea floor have led many to say that this is the most beautiful dive site in all of the island. And, just a boat ride away is Champagne Reef—a bubbling, underwater hot spring complete with multi-coloured sponges, coral, and unique marine life.
World-class diving and snorkeling hotspots
Nearby Secret Bay, dive hotspots are found in the Cabrits Marine Reserve, Toucari Bay, and in Prince Rupert Bay where there is even a shipwreck or two waiting to be explored.
There is also marvelous snorkeling directly from our beach, with pristine and healthy coral reefs all within easy reach.
The water is exceptionally clean, usually very calm, and visibility is excellent. Because of their secluded location, these reefs are rarely visited by others, so the chances are very high that you will have them all to yourself.
Whatever your requirement, level of skill, and experience, we will arrange scuba diving and snorkeling outings that are bespoke to you. We will also ensure you have all the equipment you want and need.
Striking Coral Reef Formations
Dominica is brimming with world-class dive destinations, including Douglas Bay Point, Toucari Bay Point and Shark’s Mouth to the north and L’Abym, Scotts Head Point and La Sorciere to the south.
Shallow reefs such as Champagne, where active fumaroles fill the water with bubbles, and Toucari Caves offer ideal sites for diving and snorkeling and, come dusk, night snorkeling to spot the reclusive creatures that emerge and vibrant corals that bloom in the light of the moon.
Free Diving
Soufriere Bay in Dominica’s south west, was formed by a massive volcanic explosion creating a narrow coast shelf and a stark drop-off to stunning depths. The island’s largest marine reserve, long popular with scuba divers, Soufriere Bay is now home to free diving in Dominica, where holding your breath underwater becomes both a sport and a spiritual experience. Learn the techniques and practice with world-renowned freediving experts or enter one of Dominica’s annual freediving competitions.
PADI Training
A PADI Discover Scuba experience is the entry point for beginners. Your instructor will teach you the essential skills you need for scuba diving and then accompany you on a try-dive in fairly shallow water along a beautiful reef with easy conditions.
A PADI Open Water certification course includes both theory and practice and usually takes around four days. If this is of interest to you, we recommend that you undertake the theory and basic skills at your local dive center, where you can obtain a ‘referral’ to finish your training here. This means that instead of four days, you spend two full mornings diving to complete your certification. And then the underwater world is all yours!
Dining / Restaurant(s)
Dining at Secret Bay
Secret Bay offers three ways to dine: in the privacy of your villa with a personal chef, at Bwa Denn Kitchen surrounded by Caribbean art, or at the Botanica chef’s table set in our organic garden by the Cario River. Our executive chef works without a fixed menu, building each meal around what arrives that day from the on-site garden, neighboring farms, and local fishers. The result is traceable, seasonal cooking that Forbes recognized as a global leader in sustainable food tourism. For a hands-on experience, join our cooking classes and learn to prepare Dominican classics with ingredients you forage yourself.
Bwa Denn
Experience a creative and cultural immersion like no other at Secret Bay’s brand-new Bwa Denn. Embraced by the sights and sounds of the rainforest, the modern minimalist two-level structure features a casual gourmet restaurant on the ground floor for daily breakfast and all-day eats inspired by the island, a full-service bar, open-air terrace, art gallery, hip microbrewery, conference space, mini theater and cutting-edge wine cellar. The rooftop lounge and dining space with extensive ocean vistas is home to our delectable tapas menu and signature “no menu” concept, an adults-only (16+ years) fine-dining experience at Secret Bay. Admire inspiring artworks either from the ground floor or the internally suspended view deck and sip on craft kombucha brewed directly on-site with local ingredients and — above all — revel in a refreshed Nature Island experience.
Botanica: Organic Garden & Chef’s Table
Feast the senses with an outdoor chef table experience nestled into an organic garden by the Cario river. Guests may enjoy true garden-to-fork decadence with wholesome, plant-based entrees paired with fresh vegetables, fragrant herbs, and aromatic spices sourced from the Chef’s organic garden. Botanica hosts 6-seat, farm- and sea-to-table cooking classes three times weekly, each featuring plant-based, pescatarian, and omnivore menus using traceable organic produce, fish, and meats foraged from the property or sourced from nearby farms.
In-Villa, Poolside or Beach Dining
Whether you wish to dine in the comfort of your own villa or crave a full day with the entire family in the sun, your dedicated villa host will take care of all dining details — from setting the table and mixing cocktails to placing your order for a poolside lunch to paddling a packed picnic directly to you at Secret Beach. All-day eats are selected off our à la carte menus, featuring sea- and farm-to-table plates inspired by the island’s bounty. For breakfast in-villa, savor our Traditional Dominican Breakfast, nutrient-rich smoothie bowls or sumptuous eggs-to-order prepared in-villa by your villa host.
Deck Dining
Reserve one of our quiet decks overlooking the Caribbean Sea for a private, firelit fine dining experience. The picturesque Sunset Deck offers sweeping views and cracking Caribbean sunsets on repeat, while Gwiyavyé Heights serves up an intimate al fresco dining experience while suspended amongst the treetops of an organic guava grove, and our Beach Bonfire provides spectacular firelit fine dining with your toes in the sand.
Pre-Stocking
Every Secret Bay stay includes a complimentary Organic Breakfast Basket, filled with a supply of farm fresh eggs, organic fruit, homemade granola, yogurt, bread, jam and dried fruit, coffee beans and local lemongrass and cocoa teas, pre-stocked and replenished, on request, for the duration of stay.
Guests also have the option to pre-stock their villa kitchen with their favorite foods, from specialty ingredients for a quiet evening in-villa to homemade snacks, beverages, and a medley of locally-grown organic produce, all of which you may note on your pre-arrival questionnaire or request from your villa host during your stay. Whether you choose to cook in your fully-equipped European gourmet kitchen or have your villa host prepare breakfast to your specifications, you can rest assured that all ingredients are of the highest quality, sourced either on the property or from nearby markets.
Add-Ons

With our private chef experience, you’ll indulge in locally-sourced, seasonally-inspired dishes all artfully made within the serene setting of your own villa. Whether you wish to mimic our signature “no menu” experience or guide our executive chef to prepare the meal of your dreams, you and yours can rest assured that the evening will be nothing short of unforgettable.
Cooking Classes
For those seeking a participatory culinary experience rooted in Dominica’s rich culture, Secret Bay offers personalized in-villa and chef’s table cooking classes. Here, you’ll discover indigenous ingredients and preparations under the guidance of our executive chef. Whether learning how to de-spine the sustainably caught Lionfish or joining the chef in foraging the Secret Bay property for wild herbs and vegetables to inspire your lunch, you’ll leave the kitchen forever changed.
Wine at Secret Bay
In addition to the well-stocked wine cooler available in your villa, we also offer a selection of fine wines from around the world stored in our temperature-controlled cellar. Whether you’re craving a chilled glass of Provençal rosé in your hammock, a Champagne aperitif to celebrate a special occasion, or an exceptional vintage red to accompany your dinner at Bwa Denn, all of our wines have been especially selected by our sommelier, and we are sure there will be one that is just right for you.
Lunch & Dinner
Beyond each stay’s daily full breakfast and complimentary Organic Breakfast Basket, guests have the option to indulge in the nourishing, flavourful, and colorful fare of their choosing with the Lunch & Dinner add-on. This package covers meals in the afternoon or evening, or both. Lunch is available off our island-to-table menus or packed to take with you on your adventures of the day, while dinner is served at Bwa Denn à la carte or following our executive chef’s innovative “no-menu” concept.

Diving / Diving Site(s)
Pristine reefs, breathtaking wall dives, and excellent visibility
The Diving
From Phillipe Cousteau to David Doubliet, just about every diver who has experienced diving with us has stated that Cayman’s East End is one of the Caribbean’s premier dive spots. Offering, pristine reefs, breathtaking wall dives, excellent visibility and incredible diving.
The Cayman Islands have strict marine conservation laws to protect the underwater environment. Many of our 55 dive sites are within a short boat ride, including the legendary Jack McKenny’s Canyons – one of East End’s famous dive sites.
Here, corals, canyons and sand chutes lead you thorough into pristine deep blue waters of the outer reef before plunging to 6,000ft. These exhilarating walls are covered with brightly hued sponges, corals and sea fans. The 80 -86 degree water is second to none when it comes to clarity and it is said that more underwater photographs are taken in the Cayman Islands than in all other Caribbean destinations.
The Cayman Islands’ trademark turtles are common sight and eagle rays, angelfish, reef sharks and grouper count among the 500 species of fish that have been documented here.
Shore Diving
The East End is typically renowned for boat diving, however there are a few sites out here that can be dived from shore, there is no shore diving directly from the beach at the Compass Point Dive Resort.
The sites that can be dived from shore are typically for the more advanced “adventure” diver, there is no direct ladder access or marked entry points at the sites. East End shore diving typically involves walking over iron shore and then a large swim out as they are also boat dives. Access, entry and site selection would be determined by wind direction.
The following are the particulars of our shore diving rental policy:
1. Rental is until 5:00pm the next day ….no matter what time the tank is taken out. This constitutes 1 full day’s rental. eg: a tank is rented out at 9:00 am on Monday , it is due back at 5:00 pm on Tuesday. Tank rented at 4:30pm on Monday, it is due back at 5:00pm on Tuesday.
2. Cost of 1 day’s tank rental is $15 USD for an air tank, $20 for a nitrox tank. If nitrox is rented out, renter must analyze and sign nitrox record.
3. Cost of weight belt rental is $5 per day and 1 day is defined as above.
4. The tank can be re-filled as many times as possible within that 1 day’s rental period for $10 air, $15 nitrox. 5. No refund/credit on unused breathing gas.
6. Shore tanks limited to 20 air tanks.
7. All equipment has to be physically checked in by Ocean Frontiers personnel. Un-returned tanks charged at $200 each, weight belts $50 each 8. One tank per c-card. NO SOLO DIVING!!
Shore Diving on the West side on Grand Cayman typically requires that you rent tanks from the onsite dive shop at the shore diving location.
For directions, weather, conditions, maps- just check with the front desk at the dive shop and you’ll find us happy to help.
Our onsite dive operator – Ocean Frontiers are delighted to introduce you to the spectacular diving on the East End of Grand Cayman and to ensure they give you have a safe and enjoyable dive experience. Overview
Compass Point’s on-site dive operator, Ocean Frontiers, specializing in diving the 55 dive sites around the East End District of Grand Cayman – central to Compass Points location, ensuring short boat rides to the best diving. The good thing about the East End District of Grand Cayman is that there is a North, East and South sides of the end of the island, with one or more of the sides normally offering good diving conditions. Ocean Frontiers historical track record of diving averages 363 days of the year. In 2019 Ocean Frontiers ran dive boats every single day with no cancelations due to inclement weather. On rare occation dives may be cancelled due to bad weather such as hurricanes or lightening. Ocean Frontiers has a reliability ‘trip-run’ rating of 99.45%. What this means….. the chances are, we’re going diving!
The diving conditions can be summarized as follows:
- Wave Heights = Average 2-3ft, range of 0-5ft
- Wind Speeds = Annual average 11 knots, range of 0-18
- Currents = less than 0 knots, very mild to none
- Water Temperature = 78f-86f degrees, lowest Feb., highest Sept.
- Visability = 80-200ft, Average of 100 feet on most dives.
- Trip-Run Rating = 99.45%, cancellations are rare due to weather and we operate all year round.
Visibility
A widely debated topic with several definitions, which we measure by ‘How far away can you see another diver’ (your buddy should be closer than 100 feet). Vertical visibility, is typically greater than horizontal visibility, but figures stated are always in horizontal as that is the most relavent for navigational purposes. The visability in the Cayman Islands can be described as good, very good, or crystal clear – so much so, that it is rarely considered when picking a dive site as we often take it for granted how good the visability is in Cayman. The reason for the exceptional water clarity is due to the fact that we have no mountains or rivers in the Cayman Islands and therefore no run-off to cause sediment. The remote location from any mainland and extream deep water trenches result in some of the best underwater visability you will find anywhere in the world. Caution: once you have been diving in the Cayman Islands you may become a ‘Viz Snob’ and refuse to go diving in anything less than 80ft viz.
Wind
Wind speeds vary from zero (0) to 12-14 knots most of the year in the Cayman Islands, with gusts much stronger from time to time during a passing storm or cold front. The wind direction either pravails from the North East from November through April or South East from May through October. However, general trends may not be typical for every week of the year. Wind direction is key when selecting which dive sites we will be visiting each day, for example: if winds are prevailing from the South, then the North shore would have the most favorable diving conditions. Wind chill factors are not normally considered during our summer months, but during December through March, a jacket or sweater may provide some comfort on the dive boat after or between dives.
Waves
Diving conditions on the East End of Grand Cayman normally have some mild or slight wave action. We are in the Caribbean Sea and not the North Atlantic so normal conditions are favorable to diving all year. East End consists of three distinct diving areas and adverse weather such as strong winds and waves does not prevent us from diving, but instead may only limit us to diving certain areas that are more protected within the district. We do have 55 dive sites to choose from and in the unlikely event of inclement weather, that may be reduced slightly. For example if there are large waves on the North coast of the East End, you will find that the South coast of East End to be protected and calm, or vice versa.
Water Temperature
Water temperature in the Cayman Islands peaks at 86f degrees in September each year and dips to 78f degrees in Febuary. The temperature changes approximately 1.5f degrees per month, December/January is around 81f degrees. June and November have the same water temperature- June is 82f during the upward cycle to the peak and November is 82f on the way back down to the low in February. There is very little variation in temperature between 30 feet and 100 feet deep and no distinct thermocline. In the very shallow areas less than 10 feet you will find elevated temperatures outside of normal ranges in the summer months.
From July-October very little or no exposure protection is needed and most scuba divers will wear a rashgaurd / dive skin. June and November a shorty 3mm wetsuit or similar is recommended. December through March a full 3mm wetsuit or shorty is recommended, especially if you are scuba diving all day. Every diver is different and some prefer to wear a wetsuit year round and some (even dive staff) just wear shorts and a rashgaurd all year. Rental wetsuits are available at the dive shop if you wish to add another layer.
Currents
Current is defined as the flow of water in one direction from point A to point B. Currents underwater in the Cayman Islands are uncommon on dive sites. The best method to scuba dive in currents is by ‘Drift Dive’, whereas the boat would drop off a group of divers at point A and pick them up down current at point B. Dive sites are tested for current after tying up on a mooring, by dropping a weighted line from the dive boat and monitoring the angle of the line to determine the direction and strength of the current. If the current is of noticable strength, the dive boat would typically relocate to another site without current or opt to conduct a drift dive.
Surge
Surge is defined as the back and forth movement of the ocean caused by waves passing through from deeper to shallow depths. Surge not normally felt on wall dives at depth, but occationally on shallow dives in areas shallower than 30 feet deep. Surge maybe present on some of the shallow dives on East End.
Seasons
Seasons in the Cayman Islands follow the same pattern as any other country in the Northern Hemmisphere- however, the seasons have much less variation and may not be a noticable difference to some. Summer season runs from June through August and typically has prevailing winds from the South, resulting in more dive trips running to the North shore of East End. The summer is known for some of the calmest diving conditions, especially on the Northside. Summer is also known for SilverSides blooming on the shallow dive sites and in early summer you will see more Green Sea Turtles than other times of year. Fall/Autumn is peak hurricane season, September through November, but has the wonderful trade off of some of the best diving conditions you could ever imagine. September is also the only time during the year that you can witness coral spawning. Winter is from December through March and offers less humidity and cooler breezes topside. The diving considtions in the winter can be impacted by slightly stronger winds from the North, resulting in more dive trips running to the South shore of East End. Spring is April through June and is the time of year you will see the most fish life activity on the reefs, especially with massive schools juvenile reef fish, such as Blue Chromis.
Motion Sickness
We find there are three kinds of divers when it comes to motion sickness. 1- You don’t get sea sick, never have, never will and should have considered a career in the Navy., 2- You typically don’t get sea sick but need to pay attention to what you eat and tend to keep a general eye on the horizon., or 3- You get sea sick just looking at a boat and regardless of the weather, ‘IT’ could happen. If you are susceptible to motion sickness, we recommend taking non-prescription medication that is available at any pharmacy or dive store. Alternatively some divers prefer natural remedies such as ginger. We also recommend avoiding greasy foods for breakfast and in general monitor what you eat prior to diving. When on board the vessel, avoid reading a book or working on your dive gear without a clear view of the horizon. Even divers who have a tendency to get sea sick, don’t as long as the boat is moving. As soon as the boat stops, is when the sensation starts to set in- if this is what happens to you, then we recoomend advising the crew and making sure yuo are in the first group to enter the water with your buddy. Most divers feel instantly better as soon as they get off the boat. Sea sickness can easily be avoided with medication and awareness.

This is no ordinary dive storage facility, it has one big difference – you never have to touch your gear. Once you have unpacked your luggage, you place your dive gear in the crate and soon after a member of our team will whisk it away and you won’t see it again until you step on the dive boat for your first trip. Our crew will meticulously set up your dive gear to your liking and answer any questions you may have.
Your tanks will be changed between dives and then when you are done diving for the day, our crew will rinse and store your gear to dry in our dive locker until you are ready for your next trip. Diving / Diving Site(s)
The best diving in the Caribbean!
The Diving
If you want to fall in love with diving, become a better diver, or dive safe and relaxed as a family, welcome to Belmar Resort. Here you can just jump off the dock to enjoy large schools of fish, shallow wrecks, and easy diving with newly certified kids. The water is warm, the view is fantastic and the marine life is abundant. The dive team here is among the very best in the Caribbean! Most are parents themselves, so kids’ safety is the priority. Our dive operation Buddy Dive is a PADI 5-star CDC center.
With as many as 60 officially listed dive sites on Bonaire and another 20 dive sites on Klein Bonaire, the dive operation at Belmar Resort is geared up for you to make the most out of your dive vacation.
To help us keep our reef environment healthy for many years to come, we do encourage all divers traveling to Bonaire to familiarize themselves with the Marine Park Regulations before their visit.
Bonaire’s sea abounds with beautiful marine life and a fascinating variety of multi-colored tropical fish. The sea is remarkably calm, and conditions are superb for both scuba diving and snorkeling.
Let's Go Diving
You can start diving once you have checked in and completed your orientation dive. Bonaire Marine Park regulations require you to participate in an orientation program before you enter the water for your first dive.
If your flight arrives in time for you to participate in the dive orientation, you can begin diving the day you arrive, and this would count as the first diving day of your diving package. Divers arriving on afternoon flights will attend orientation the following morning.
The diving schedule will include boat departures at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM each morning from Sunday through Thursday (Friday will be a Family Day dive).
Easy Diving
On average, Bonaire’s visibility exceeds 100 feet (30 meters), and our average water temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit (29c). The fringing reef begins close to the shore; usually, a short 30-foot (10 meters) swim or less, making Bonaire world-renowned for its ease of shore diving.
All levels of divers can enjoy the freedom of our unlimited shore diving package, making as many dives as they want each day, according to their safe profiles. There are plenty of 80 and 63 cubic foot air and Nitrox tanks available at either the ‘Drive Thru’ or on the dock where there are convenient benches for gear set-up and two sturdy ladders that provide easy access to the water. Rinse tanks are located at the dive shop as well as on the docks where there is a large gear storage room. This makes diving at Belmar easy and enjoyable.
One can join our experienced, friendly dive staff on our morning and afternoon boat dives. Every day of the year, our custom dive boats go out to explore the many dive sites on the nearby island of Klein Bonaire, a short 10-minute boat ride away, or to other spectacular dive sites not accessible from shore. Guided day and night dives are also arranged to great sites such as the Salt Pier or Town Pier, which have become a mecca for photographers. Even Klein Bonaire is visited at night on a regular boat night dive. And remember Bonaire is the shore diving capital of the Caribbean, so grab a tank or two and make some bubbles.
Dive Excellence
The best place for diving on Bonaire is with our dive operation Buddy Dive! Buddy Dive is a DAN Member, as well as a PADI 5-Star Gold Palm Resort and Universal Referral Center. The Universal Referral designation enables Buddy Dive instructors to offer Open Water Completion courses to students from SSI and NAUI as well as a host of other training organizations. In fact, Buddy’s provides every level of instruction imaginable, conducted in several languages. In addition to all the standard PADI specialties, we also offer you the chance to become an Enriched Air Certified diver, or even try out a Rebreather!
As a full-service dive center, we also have a complete inventory of rental gear available. Buddy Dive guests who prefer to purchase instead of rent will enjoy shopping at the well-stocked retail shop. The on-property shop carries a wide range of dive and snorkel gear and accessories, as well as t-shirts, sandals, caps, dive lights, film, and souvenirs galore!
Fees (for the good of the Coral reef): It is necessary for all who use the waters of the Bonaire National Marine Park to pay a Nature Fee of $25 per year ($10 for snorkelers). At the time of payment, you will receive a specially designed tag indicating your support for nature preservation and a receipt. Keep both, as they will also provide you with complimentary admission to Washington-Slagbaai National Park throughout the year your tag is valid. Tags are available for purchase at all dive operations, hotels, resorts, windsurfing operations, sport-fishing charter boats, sail/snorkel/water taxi operations, marinas, and other water sports operations on Bonaire.

Dive Sites
Over 60 remarkable dive sites! (And yes, we have listed them)
1. Boca Bartol: This shore dive is the northernmost site in Marine Park. Advanced divers may encounter strong currents. The recommended depth is from 20-80 feet, with interesting coral reef formations in the shallows. Many of the larger fish species abound, and there is a chance to see rays and garden eels on the sandy bottom.
2. Playa Bengi: Located along the northwest coast of Washington Slagbaai Park, Playa Benge is known for its heavy currents. Recommended only for the advanced diver, the depth ranges from 15-100 feet. Ashore dive only, the experienced diver will be rewarded with some of the most pristine coral on Bonaire.
3. Playa Funchi: Located in Washington Slagbaai National Park, Playa Funchi is for the advanced diver and has moderate to heavy currents. There is no mooring here, so access is from the shore only. In depths of 15-100 feet, horse-eye jacks can be seen out in blue water. The shallows teem with spotted trunkfish that approach you looking for a hand-out.
4. Bise Morto: Another Washington Park dive, this boat dive site can have moderate to strong currents and is recommended for the intermediate to advanced diver. Depths of 20-100 feet offer shallows loaded with elkhorn and staghorn coral, hence the name, which means “dead deer.” The deeper waters provide an opportunity to see larger species, including whale sharks and manta rays.
5. Boca Slagbaai: Located in Washington Slagbaai National Park, this site is known for its moderate to strong currents and is recommended for intermediate to experienced divers. With depths of 20-100 feet, you may have a chance to see mantas or other smaller rays. At the southern end of the cove, there is a cannon in just 10 feet of water. Slagbaai is also accessible by boat diving.
6. Nukove: A bit hard to find, this site is a shore dive only. It ranges from 20-100 feet and has mild to strong currents. Intermediate-level divers will find huge elkhorn coral in the shallows, with schools of algae-eating reef fish present. Also seen are large midnight blue parrots. The drop-off has large coral heads that sometimes shelter nurse sharks.
7. Karpata: One of Bonaire’s most popular shore dives, Karpata can also be reached by boat. With depths ranging from 20-100 feet and light to moderate currents, novice and intermediate divers can pose for pictures alongside one of the many huge ship anchors embedded in the coral. Known for great visibility, wide-angle photographers can enjoy panoramic vistas to frame their subjects.
8. La Dania’s Leap: Known for the practice of “leaping” off the shore and then doing a drift dive to Karpata, this site has been recommended for intermediate divers by boat only. With light currents and depths of 15-100 feet, La Dania’s is one of Bonaire’s few vertical walls, with numerous canyons and sand shoots.
9. Rappel: The most often asked for the dive site, Rappel is reached only by boat. Due to the proximity to the rocky ledge, an intermediate skill level is required. With a depth of 30-100 feet and moderate currents, Rappel has huge sea fans in the shallows and an abundance of nudibranchs and other marine life.
10. Bloodlet: Too difficult for shore diving, Bloodlet has moderate currents and is for the intermediate boat diver. Averaging 20-80 feet, there is a dense reef structure that is home to schools of algae-eating blue tangs. Yellow and green tube sponges are also evident. Bloodlet is one of the places where sea turtles are often sighted and an abundance of marine life.
11. Ol’ Blue: This shore or boat dive site lies just off a long coral beach, east of 1000 Steps. Light to moderate currents and depths of 20-100 feet offer the novice and intermediate divers the chance to see numerous friendly French angelfish and schools of horse-eye jacks.
12. Country Garden: A boat dive with moderate currents for the beginner to an intermediate skilled diver. The average depth is 20-80 feet, and the shallows are covered with large boulders that have fallen from the cliffs and provide shelter for schoolmasters, grunts, and goatfish.
13. Bon Bini Na Cas: “Welcome Home” in the native language, this site lies just next to 1000 Steps and is a boat dive only. With light to moderate currents, beginner and intermediate divers will enjoy schools of Creole wrasse and blue tangs in depths ranging from 20-100 feet.
14. 1000 Steps: Situated in front of the Radio Netherlands towers, 1000 Steps is a shore or boat dive (actually, for the shore divers, 64 steps down to the site from the road and it seems like 1000 steps coming back up with scuba gear!). Currents are light, and the novice diver will have a chance to observe hawksbill turtles or a passing whale shark or manta.
15. Weber’s Joy/Witches Hut: This easy shore or boat dive, with light currents and a depth of 20-100 feet, offers novice divers a chance to see mountainous star coral with abundant fish life. Angelfish, rock beauties, and butterflyfish make their homes in the rocky reefs. This site is a favorite of underwater photographers.
16. Jeff Davis Memorial: Accessible from boat or shore, this site is great for beginners, with light to moderate currents and a depth of 20-100 feet. The shallows are covered with soft coral reefs and are a good place for sea turtles or maybe a seahorse. There are several large coral accumulations, forming chutes that lead to a sandy bottom.
17. Oil Slick Leap: Recommended as a boat dive, the hearty shore diver will find a steel ladder leading to the water. Named Oil Slick Leap because this was the original proposed site for the oil storage terminal, this dive is for the novice boat diver and has mild currents and a depth of 20-80 feet. There are generally large numbers of barracuda seen here.
18. Barcadera: This boat dive is located directly opposite the Bonaire Marine Park Headquarters. Moderate currents and depths of 30-100 feet are great for novice to intermediate divers. The shallows are covered with elkhorn coral and host schools of algae-eating blue tangs.
19. Andrea II: Located just past the desalination plant, Andrea I and II can be reached by boat or shore. Currents are mostly light, so they are ideal sites for beginner divers. With an average depth of 20-100 feet, there are many anemones and soft coral offering shelter to hungry trumpet fish. Both these sites offer a good chance of seeing seahorses.
20. Andrea I: See Andrea II.
21. Petrie’s Pillar: This is a shore dive only for the beginner, with moderate currents and an average depth of 30-100 feet. The terrain is much like Andrea I and II. Large stands of pillar coral are found in the shallows along with schools of blue tangs. Named by Capt. Don as a wedding present for a friend.
22. Small Wall: Located in front of the Black Dungeon Inn, this site offers the novice diver a chance to do a shallow wall dive. Accessed from boat or shore (you need permission to cross private property to shore dive), the currents are light to moderate, with the wall beginning at 20 feet. A cave can be found at 60 feet, with the possibility of seeing a sleeping nurse shark.
23. Cliff: Accessed either from shore or boat, Cliff is located in front of the Hamlet Villas, north of Habitat. With light to moderate currents in 20-70 feet of water, the novice diver will have a chance to see Capt. Don’s underwater Stone Memorial to the “divers who have gone before us,” which is marked with a plaque and dive flag.
24. La Machaca: Situated off Capt. Don’s Habitat, this site with mild to moderate currents allows the novice diver a chance to do a “wreck dive” in relatively shallow water. The 45-foot locally built boat lies in 40-50 feet of water, 30 yards from shore. Sometimes a large green eel will find refuge here so you should approach him with caution.
25. Reef Scientifico: South of La Machaca, in 40 feet of water, a grid system has been constructed to monitor algae growth on the reef. While the conditions are much the same as La Machaca, night diving here will reward you with a view of sleeping parrotfish and free-swimming spotted morays.
26. Buddy’s Reef: Located in front of Buddy Dive Resort, this shore dive has mild currents and is perfect for beginners. With depths of 30-100 feet, expect to see black chironomids perched on coral heads in the shallows. A resident school of tarpon almost always greets night divers. For a house coral reef
27. Bari Reef: Located at the Sand Dollar Beach Resort in 20-100 feet of water, it has light to moderate currents and is an ideal site for the novice or non-diver to learn scuba diving. Access is from the shore at the dive shop pier. A popular night dive, with friendly tarpons darting back and forth in front of your light beam!
28. Front Porch: Truly an easy dive, with light to moderate currents, Front Porch is located at the Sunset Beach Resort. Access is always from shore. The prolific fish life begins at 15 feet, right under the pier, and continues down to 80 feet, where a small wreck of a tugboat lies upside down.
29. Something Special: Located just south of the marina entrance, this is a shore or boat dive for the beginner. Currents are mild and the depth is from 20-80 feet. There is very little coral growth since this is one area where sailboats are allowed to anchor. However, the fish life is abundant, with a sandy bottom where rays are often seen. Great for night diving.
30. Town Pier: The most well-known dive site on Bonaire. All levels of divers will experience little current and depths from 20-40 feet. As a shore dive, you must have permission from the harbormaster and be accompanied by a local dive guide. It is a photographer’s dream location, with literally hundreds of photo opportunities.
31. Calabas Reef: Located in front of Dive Bonaire at the Divi Flamingo Resort, this reef is well suited for all levels of divers, with mild currents and a depth of 20-100 feet. All species of reef fish abound, with the occasional turtle or ray passing by.
32. Eighteen Palms: This shore or boat dive lies directly in front of the Lt. Governor’s house, which, coincidentally, has at least 18 palm trees planted in the front yard. Accessed from shore at the Plaza Resort, it has mild currents and ranges from 20-80 feet for the novice and intermediate divers. Southern and eagle rays are often seen in the sandy bottom.
33. Windsock: A shore or boat dive, Windsock offers the novice diver the chance to cruise the area located at the end of the runway off Flamingo Airport. With the depth ranging from 30-100 feet, divers often see turtles and rays. Named for the windsock that flies from a pole on the runway, this dive site also is excellent for snorkeling.
34. North Belnem: Also sometimes called Dick’s Place, this is an easy shore or boat dive for all skill levels. With moderate currents and a depth of 20-100 feet, the shallows have stands of elkhorn coral and schools of blue tang.
35. Bachelor’s Beach: A great boat dive, the novice diver will find Bachelor’s Beach also easy to do from shore. Located just past the airport, the 30-100 foot site has lots of soft coral in the shallows and mild currents. Also, the chances of seeing sea turtles are good here.
36. Chez Hines: Sometimes called South Belnem, Chez Hines is accessible from both shore and boat. With moderate currents, the beginning diver can expect a depth of 30-100 feet. This is another site where turtles are often seen.
37. Lighthouse Point: Located in the southern part of the island, this shore or boat dive has moderate currents for the intermediate diver. With a depth range of 30-100 feet, Lighthouse Point has a sandy bottom, with plenty of soft coral.
38. Punt Vierkant: Dutch for square point, this site marks the beginning of the double reef system. Either a boat or shore dive, the current can be moderate to strong and the depth ranges from 30-100 feet for the intermediate diver. Lots of soft coral can be found in the shallows.
39. The Lake: The second of the double reef dives. Lake is 30-100 feet and has moderate currents. Accessed from either boat or shore, the beginner diver will find soft coral in the shallows and schools of colorful reef fish.
40. Hilma Hooker: This internationally known shipwreck lies at the beginning of the double reef system. With light to moderate currents and an average depth of 60-100 feet, it is recommended for advanced divers. Can be a shore or boat dive. For penetration, some wreck and deep-dive training should be taken.
41. Angel City: Shore or boat dive, with moderate currents and suitable for all skill levels. This double reef dive was named for the friendly angelfish in the area which accompany divers. The depth is from 30-100 feet and there is a “swim-through” coral arch near the mooring, which provides a good frame for photographs.
42. Alice In Wonderland: Located along the double reef system, average depth is 30-100 feet with easy access by shore or boat. For intermediate skill levels, the current is light most times. The two distinct reef systems are separated by a sand channel. Lots of friendly French angels and parrotfish are generally present. Sand channels are host to garden eels and stingrays.
43. Aquarius: Shore or boat dive, with mild to moderate currents. All levels of divers will find this an easy site with depths of 30-100 feet. Sandy bottom shallows offer an opportunity to see rays and turtles.
44. Larry’s Lair: This intermediate-level shore or boat dive has mild to moderate currents, with a depth ranging from 30-100 feet. Expect to see rays and large groupers at cleaning stations. The entry for shore divers tends to be a bit rocky, so booties are advised

Introduction
A New Grand Cayman dive adventure in 2027 and 2028
Diving with Ocean Frontiers in Grand Cayman is widely considered a top-tier experience because of their unique focus on the East End, which is far removed from the busy tourist crowds of Seven Mile Beach. They are often described as “land-based liveaboard” for the seamless integration of their accommodations and dive operations.
The “East End” Advantage
While most dive shops in Grand Cayman focus on the West Side, Ocean Frontiers specializes in the remote East End, which offers:
-
Pristine Reefs: Lower diver traffic has helped preserve the vibrancy and health of the coral.
-
Dramatic Topography: Access to over 55 sites featuring deep walls, rugged canyons, and intricate swim-throughs like “Babylon” and “The Maze.”
- Consistent Conditions: Because they can access sites on the North, East, and South coasts, they can almost always find calm water to dive, rarely needing to cancel for weather.
Unique Signature Trips
Ocean Frontiers offers specialized excursions that you won’t find with every operator:
- The X-Dive: A “point-to-point” wall dive designed to maximize chances of seeing large pelagics like reef sharks and eagle rays.

Ocean Frontiers was the first operator in the Cayman Islands to receive the PADI Green Star Award. They are heavily involved in:
