Philippines: Dauin and Cabilao

This is our #1 top choice for family diving. There are few diving destinations in the world like the Philippines. The diving offers; muck diving, macro diving, big animals encounters, whale sharks, giant frogfish and macro frogfish. The Pygmies, Wow are they cool! That’s right, the Philippines has Pygmy Seahorses and a multitude of nudibranchs found nowhere else in the world.

Pura Vida Homes; Dauin (7 nights) & Ocean Vida, Cabilao (5 nights), July 10th – 22nd (Fully escorted with Tom & Margo Peyton)

We love the Philippines so much, that we wanted your family dive vacation to include both Dauin and Cabilao for a 12 night, 13-day stay. Kids Sea Camp has designed: 7 nights at Pura Vida Homes in Dauin and 5 nights at Ocean Vida Resort in Cabilao.

Immersion travel begins and ends with this family adventure. We have included a mountain village tour from Dauin, as well as a village school trip in Cabilao. Both resorts offer spa, volleyball, and snorkeling. From Cabilao we will enjoy some topside adventures that include: zip-lining, basketball with the dive crew, the Oslob to experience with the whale sharks, the Chocolate Hills, and Tarsier monkeys.

Both of these resorts are 5-stars PADI Resorts and have superb service and excellent food. This family dive vacation is a private charter, fully escorted by Margo and Tom Peyton. A professional photographer will photograph your family throughout the trip and you will be provided with images that last a lifetime.

Something for everyone

Kids Sea Camp trips include many activities outside of diving and we are happy to customize as much as we can with individual families as needed.
We charter PADI 5 star resorts and their dive operation to run our desired and custom created curriculum. We focus on educational and cultural experiences for the entire family.

We understand that there are family members that do not dive and understand new diving kids are not always wanting to just dive every day.  We have created a diversified daily schedule to suit all family members.

Our first couple days of diving are generally refreshing for the kids what they need to remember. We go over how to set up your gear and how to use it.  Kids Sea Camp will also check buoyancy, navigation, signals underwater and any concerns.  As the week progresses, we move on to having fun and improving confidence and diving. We can and will do the same as a refresher for adults when requested.

We offer SASY, Seal Team, PADI certification classes and even discover scuba in the Philippines. For kids that are already certified, we can do; digital photography, Fish ID, Adventure Diver and even Advanced Open Water certifications. We also offer other specialties and depending on the number of participants. We have family time together and time for making new friends. We have included cultural activities, presentations, and tours in both Dauin and Cabilao.

Introducing the magical islands of the Visayas Sea

Immersion travel begins and ends with this family adventure!  Kids Sea Camp is ready to take you on a journey of a lifetime, full of culture, history, and biodiversity.

By Margo Peyton, founder of Kids Sea Camp

After landing on the main island Dumaguete, you will be met by friendly smiles and helpful hands, Biggs Eggert with Sea Explorers, handing you a cool facecloth and a bottle of water.  We then will be heading to Pura Vida Homes by private vans.

You will be diving with Sea Explorers, a PADI 5-Star IDC, during our entire stay in the Philippines.  Top notch service, smaller dive gear and tanks for kids, and a well-trained staff for all levels of divers. They accommodated big rig photographers and first-time divers alike.  Each boat had hot coffee and tea, and warm face cloths, fresh fruit, and baked bread when you returned from your dive. And to top it all you do not ever have to touch your gear accept to put in on and giant stride in. Dive gear is rinsed and set up perfectly adorned atop of your tank,  awaiting your return. Heaven!  Nothing makes the staff happier on this trip than to see the smile on your faces, and that’s why their tagline is “Dive with a smile” because you certainly will.

Dauin Pura Vida Homes and Resort.  The one and two bedroom villas can easily accommodate families of 5 and are crafted from rich hardwoods and majestic views. The beautiful beach, 2 pools, gym, spa and wedding chapel were most inspiring.

Along with all the local traditions, there is a very modern feel, microwaves, coffee makers, and the most comfortable beds in all the Philippines. There are villages to explore, a mountain school, and more amazing diving than any other place in the world I have dove.  This trip is over the top, and hands down my favorite destination to dive.

Diving Apo Island provides an endless view of colorful soft corals, teeming with fish and punctuated with my favorite, turtles! To end the day, you can do a muck dive. I had read about them for years and never thought the moment would come. Tiny orange frogfish the size of a gumball, vibrant tiger shrimp and anemone crabs, pink seahorses and little soft-bodied gastropods called nudibranch that presented extraordinary colors and patterns I could have never imagined. This type of diving allows kids to slow down and focus on the tiniest of beings in this magical underwater world.

You will enjoy some crazy fun diving Oslob on our way to Cabilao. With Sea Explorers, you will to dive in 35’ of warm clear water while observing the whale sharks feeding on krill. I had only been diving with Whale sharks in the Galapagos, and it is just fabulous diving in these much warmer waters. Kids and families can snorkel or dive this from Dauin any time during their stay.

After our dives, we are transported to Cabilao on our same banka boats.  Lunch is served and the majestic views along the way are surely not to be missed photo opportunities.  Sea Explorers staff, sings and plays music, entertaining the kids all along the way.  Cabilao sits on its own islet, surrounded by pristine reefs.  With deluxe ocean view suites and rooms dotted along the hill and beach.

These are a humble people, that prized family and each other above all things. Unlike most places, all the dive staff with Sea Explorers is provided health insurance and is well paid. Chris and Biggs treat them like family and they are just that.

I must say Cabilao had the most incredible and vibrant reefs I have ever seen in my 30 years of diving. It affected me so much, that I dreamt about the colors for months, and it sadly changed my mind’s eye when diving the Caribbean. For 5 nights and 4 days, You will enjoy the charm and impeccable service at Cabilao Ocean Vida resort.  4 days of 3 dives per day, meals and village school excursions. a spectacular Sea Explorer resort is called Pura Vida: All Oceanfront rooms sitting on this the smallest of islets completely surrounded by spectacular coral reef. The diving will provide a plethora of pygmy seahorses, turtles, rays, sharks, and schools of wild dolphin. This boutique Island resort is perfect for small groups, family reunions and Kids Sea Camp. I loved the personal closeness this resort offeres along with the continued exceptional service, food, and spa.

Last but not least, Biggs will take  us over the chocolate hills and the hanging bridge all on the island of  Bohol.

I hope you will find as did I this destination to be one of the most welcoming, safe, and smile driven places on earth. If you’re ready to take a break from electronics and your virtual world, I invite you to experience these magical islands of the Visayas Sea.

The Philippines brings your imagination to life. Join us for an epic dive journey to the Philippines to explore and experience new worlds above and below that will open your children’s eyes to a humbleness, a happiness and a new way of looking at life that they will remember forever.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

  • KSC certification: PADI has approved its first Kids Sea Diver Specialty course. The certification developed by PADI and KSC founder Margo Peyton is designed to make families that dive together to become better dive buddies. The certification is to assist parents and other adult family members who want to update and refresh some of the basic skill divers learned during previous dive training. The program provides education for those wanting to become more aware of environmental issues and concerns impacting the regions they are currently diving.
  • A KSC reboot, by going through the course a new Kids Sea Camp Diver will show mastery in both diving and be being a well-trained and confident parent and child buddy, team. Divers will have training and education in environmental stewardship and watermanship. There will be an emphasis throughout the course on safety, teamwork, and conservation.

The goals of the Kids Sea camp Diver distinctive specialty training:

  • Reinforcement of the “Good Buddy” principles and practices for adults and kids diving together.
  • Refresh divers with basic signs and skills learned in open water courses as well as updated skills and changes to technique since their certification.
  • Educate parents and adults about the benefits of continuing education in diving.
  • Encourage interest in leadership roles that promote responsible diving and safer dive planning.
  • Discuss local eco-issues and concerns, customs and traditions and how this has impacted the local environments. Example: Overfishing, land run-off, plastic introduction, depletion of marine animals.
  • Identify local environmental issues, discuss solutions and create awareness.

Digital photo course: Underwater photography is one of the most popular diving specialties, and with so many underwater cameras to choose from, it has become easier and more fun than ever to capture images of your underwater scuba adventures. The PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course gets you going quickly, whether you use a point-and-shoot camera or a sophisticated DSLR like the pros. PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers who are at least 10 years old are eligible to take the Digital Underwater Photographer course. Because underwater photography is also popular with snorkelers, there is an option for avid snorkelers and skin divers to complete the course.

Nitrox course: The PADI Enriched Air Diver course is PADI’s most popular specialty scuba course. Why? Because scuba diving with enriched air nitrox gives you more no-decompression time, especially on repetitive scuba dives. If staying down longer and getting back in the water sooner sounds appealing, then don’t hesitate to become an enriched air diver. If you’re a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old, you can enroll in the Enriched Air Diver Specialty course. Note that in some regions the minimum age is older than 12.You’ll learn why diving with air that has higher oxygen and lower nitrogen content gives you more bottom time, along with enriched air equipment considerations. During a practise session, and two optional (or required) scuba dives, you’ll:

  • Discuss managing oxygen exposure.
  • Practice analyzing oxygen content in your scuba tank.
  • Set your dive computer for diving with enriched air nitrox.

You may be able to get college credit for the PADI Enriched Air Diver course – ask your instructor to learn more.

PADI Whale Shark Aware certification: Whale sharks are the largest fish in the sea, yet are known as gentle giants with little known about their activities or population size. Research and monitoring programs are helping fill these knowledge gaps. Learn about whale shark biology, behavior and distribution. During two scuba dives or snorkeling excursions, practice passively observing these large creatures.

PADI Shark Aware certification: Sharks are crucial to marine ecosystems, yet sharks are in a global decline. Learn about the value of sharks and what is causing the rapid loss of shark populations. The course may include two scuba dives or may be presented as a non-diving education program. The first dive of this distinctive specialty course may credit as an Adventure Dive toward your Advanced Open Water Diver certification – ask your instructor about earning credit.
